Why Should You be Interested in the Prevention and Treatment of Respiratory Diseases?

The respiratory tract is constantly interacting with the external environment. It is difficult to protect it against external insults without a global collective effort. While access to clean drinking water is viewed as a basic human right, even rich and highly developed societies fail to apply similar standards to ambient air. As a result of these factors, facile spreading of global respiratory infections facilitated by rapid travel and regrettably still tobacco smoking, respiratory diseases are on the rise. Therefore, in addition to prophylactic measures, development of effective, safe and affordable therapies of diseases of the respiratory tract remains an important area for many years to come. Inhaling such therapies provides selective targeting to the affected organ while minimizing  the potential for systemic toxicity. And it has been so much fun spending much of my life doing exactly that!
